Somalia’s Federalism must be saved from dictatorship

For far too long, Somalia was at a crossroads in which it was always hoped that it would follow the path of good governance and democracy based on consent by its people. Somalia has also been at crossroads regarding reorganizing its security to defend itself from Al-Shabaab, which has directly affiliated with the global terrorism network of Al-Qaeda, which is a significant threat to global peace and security and created mayhem, misery, and instability in Somalia.


When I became the president in 2012, security was central to our six-pillar plan- that we first confront the evil of terrorism that blighted our people and held our country's development hostage. While at the same time establishing the mechanisms for the government to function effectively, including the establishment of functioning government institutions. It was also clear that Somalia would not be defended by force alone. Key to our new social contract between the Somali people and the government in 2012 was trust and delivery of public services. Security was an essential component in implementing the proposed social contract. This had to be executed in parallel with finalizing an equitable federal government system representing all the Somali people. When I handed over power in 2017, the government was operating at full capacity. The political aspect of the federalism process was completed by creating four federal member states.

Correction sheikh shareef was born and raised in mahadaay middle shabelleh and only came to xamar in 2000 after returning from his studies (Islamic law) from egypts al azhar affiliated university in libya . He couldve stayed in libaya Egypt or even mahadaay where it was much safer then xamar , he came to xamar in it's worse period when every district was closed off by Warlords .
He set up an Islamic court in northern mogadishu where it became the safest in xamar at that time due to the locals seeing justice get served .
He got famous thorough out xamar when he kicked out warlords freeing up hostages in northern Mogadishu and then the whole southern part of banadir setup their own court and merged with sheikh shareef . Other courts , suufi militia and others quickly joined and then formed The union of Islamic courts with everyone agreeing sh shareef to lead they then started liberating towns and cities in the south from warlords and ending isbaaros .

Walaalo, Stop looking thinks from a clan perspective. Deni is my adeer but I know his faults. Harti are one but we shouldn't be tribalistic. I don't necessarily support Sheikh Sharif but I believe he is the best candidate.

Don't forget that he learned a whole lot from the past two regimes. He only had two years and a half with an unrecognized transitional government with no army and no presidency to base his politics given there was no government before his. Now that he is the father of modern Somalia, he must find a way to learn from the mistakes of Farmaajo and Hassan Sheikh.
