The financial aspect of this is sobering. Within the South Sudanese context, I would be expected to produce a dowry that is 70k minimum, so when the wedding is factored in... I'm looking at 100k.
If you are far from Allaah, then yes it is, but the more fearing of Allaah you are, the better marriage is because a good woman would not burden her potential husband financially, and the Husband in turn, won't have unrealistic expectations either. I know of many good Muslim women, some of my female cousins, who took humble Mahr's [a few thousand at the most] and have good, marriages, Alhamdulilah.
