Why is surrogacy not allowed in Islam?

I was reading about surrogacy and all the source consider it prohibited, why is that?

Motherhood is honestly a blessing and that thought that some women wouldn't be able to conceive a child because they are infertile is heartbreaking. Surrogacy is a neat little trick that we use in modern medicine in order to allow people to have bio kids.

I see no reason why modern sheikhs deem it impermissible.

Rasulallah never spoke on it. There's also a tradition of having wet nurses/foster mothers. Do it if you want. :nvjpqts:

There are fundamentals that don't change with time and they remain the foundations of society. In the case of surrogacy, you may be looking at it from the perspective of the couple who need children and rent out a womb. But in that process, I think Islam looks at it from the ethical and law involved in family and the rights of the babe itself being born into a risky situation where disputes may arise later on. There are siblings involved who are related to the babe through the surrogate mother, they have rights, the woman carrying the child has rights if she wants to exercise that sooner or later, documents signed under contract would not be able to replace genuine connection between a woman and a babe she carried for 9 months. Just to name and list few of the difficult situations that come with surrogacy.

Suppose this process becomes affordable to many humans and they start to rent wombs of the poor. How do you see social cohesion and human relations moving forward when millions are born like that? Cultures, languages and all issues ethnic can die out through this process.

Western and Islamic modern scholars both share same and different philosophical view points on this issue, and both agree this is not good for anyone involved. Best option is to raise a child out of goodwill without giving them your name, which is best for all involved from the Islamic perspective. The child keeps his/her lineage and knows the original parents, the parents who raise the child out of goodwill fulfill their desire to help a needy child.

Only a selfless human can accept this arrangement given through Islam. The selfish seek to prioritize their self interest to the exclusion of everyone else's right including the new child they buy or the one they raise and change it's name.

What’s even worse is that there’s a possibility of turning surrogates into “machines” that are being forced. Carrying a baby for 9 months and going through a painful birth only to give up the baby is incredibly cruel and selfish.

I saw online so many women being surrogates for their close friends, mothers, and sisters. They probably were pressured into being surrogates or else they’d be seen as being ungrateful.

At the same time there’s also a possibility of the mother growing attached to her child and may want to keep it. At that point it becomes so complicated and custody cases will go on forever.

Telling another woman to go through labour for you is unethical.

I could agree with you but then we’d both be wrong

Surrogacy is absolutely Haram and prohibited in our religion. Preserving the lineage of the child is utmost priority and we shouldn't cross beyond that boundary.

Nowadays, even infertile women have a chance of having children through modern artificial insemination techniques such as IVF and ICSI.

There's also an entirely different procedure called stem cells + PRP to rejuvenate a dying or already dead ovary. Such advanced procedure is especially suitable for 50+ post menopausal ladies.

This is where believe in the divine will and decree of God for all of us gives boost to self-esteem and personal strength in order to live a happy life despite some personal issues people are dealing with. Islamic approach to and understanding of human Psyche is the stuff of good philosophy.

Just adopt at that point, to many hungry orphans in the world
Exactly, it sucks to find out you or your spouse can’t have kids but you can’t do much about it. Just make the best out of it and adopt a child and raise them as your own.
