Why have Somali women become household providers?

Its nothing new either. It's been like this since the civil war, they've been the breadwinners and taking on the role as both mother and father since.

This is just plain sad. What are the fathers/husbands doing? I understand somalia is dealing with the aftermath of a civil war+ lack of a gov. but still we are moving away from traditional families and it will cause problems for future generations to come.

You just gotta have to accept that there is dysfunction in our communities, we are not perfect by any means so you will see bad situations and people. This includes somali men not providing for there family. Its unfortunate but it is what it is.

I guess it's hard for me to just accept the dysfunction in our community, but i'm reaching a point where i'm not caring anymore about what man and woman does in their marriage. It's on them. and judging by some of the responses i am getting on this thread from Somali men here they don't value the role of masculinity very much.

You've been fight for (more like white women have been fight for you) 50:50 for over 100 years. Now you work as a man pay have the bills 50% plus take care of the house 50%

so your doing 50:100

and that's the double burden of duties I am talking about. They have even wrote articles on this and women are still doing more household work even while working. It's a literal scam and so many women in the west are falling for it. I'm trying to help these ladies out and open their eyes. Don't marry a man that won't provide fully for you, so that you can stay at home with your children and relax.

I'm not sure why it's happening but it has to stop. I've seen way too many Somali women that become mentally ill due to all the stress that's put on them by their family.

Exactly why does our community have such a high single motherhood rate and divorce rate? Clearly these women aren't happy in their marriages and are leaving. A lot of Somalis abandon the traditional way of family and this is what happens.
