Why does Somalia get so much foreign direct investment?

10% of Somalia's GDP is foreign investment.

Kenya has 1-2%

Only other African countries with a similar/higher percentage are Ghana and the DRC.

Aid money doesn't count.

Somalia’s FDI is extremely low in dollar value.

The fact that the little FDI it does get makes up a big chunk of the GDP is a testament to how small the economy is.

Not really

The dollar amount is 0.5 billion the dollar amount for Kenya is 1 billion

You would expect that Kenya having an economy x20 larger and being a stable peaceful country would have far higher fdi

Other wartorn countries get way less Afghanistan used to get 20 million

that’s a fair point, Somalia does seem to be punching above its weight in FDI in recent years, but that could be because it’s still virgin territory and there is huge ROI to be made due to its lack relatively low level of development.

Most FDI seems to be geared towards fisheries and agriculture which makes sense.
