Why does it seem like somalis have no clout in the US despite being here since the 90s?

Minnesota, despite have the largest somali population in all of the US, there barely any clout? Like for example, Jews have major influence in New York, Persians/Armenians in Los Angeles, Cubans in Miami, Mexicans in Texas, Italians in New Jersey etc. All of these ethnic groups have left an imprint whether it’s with food, slang, entertainment, music....you don’t see this in Minnesota with somalis, why? Ethiopians have more clout if you go to DC or DMV in general every person no matter if they are black white asian are eating and talking about Ethiopian food. Why is our image so bad?

Even in the UK we have no clout, why is there no Somali food stall in markets in central, you will find Ethiopian ones, and their restaurant are also admired, while Somalis restaurant are like coffee shop for Somalis to congregate. Drill rapers saying Somali words is NOT clout.

Only clout that should matter is political/economical clout. Clout in entertainment, slang is useless, no financial gain.

Somali food is getting its recognition. Most of our restaurants are primarily for somali customers, not for others. This is slowly changing as somali restaurants are starting to also cater to foreign customers. Somali food is getting praised in Tiktok and in real life.

Ethiopians have been in the US longer than Somalis and have a different history as many are immigrants (lower to mostly middle class) while we are refugees. So many of these Ethiopian restaurants were first started in the 90s/early 00s but even then only starting to get some recognisition in the 2010s when hipsters/vegans were making a big deal out of it since many of the Ethiopian dishes are vegan/gluten free and appealed to them which is easy to understand as vegan food is mostly a bland mess. Same reason why Indian food is also being popular with them.

But even then i believe you are exxagerating as Ethiopian food is still very much a niche and not that popular under youngsters. It may be the most popular African food along with Moroccan in the US as other African immigrants like Nigerians, Ghanaians and Kenyans are on average more educated (more doctors and students at college) and still very insular (as in not really sharing their culture with others, in contrast with the West African community in Europe that are more more open and own lots of restaurants). Same with us Somalis. We are not that interested in interacting with others and we only really concern ourselves with our own. Ethiopians are very big on sharing their culture which is why at so many restaurants they also hire bands to play their music or do coffee ceromony.

But there's also many Somali restaurants in the Us, Canada and the UK that are also popular among non Somalis. I know some of my Asian friends that go to a Somali restaurant regularly because they love our rice dish.

Because Somali restaurants wherever they are sell goat chops. Who in the world wants to eat fatty goat chops and too much rice where all you got is just too much carbs.
