Why does everyone keep talking about about the "Somali reputation".

Somalis don't have much of a reputation if at all.

There are literally like 3 cities in the world that even have a sizable somali population: London, Toronto and Minnesota and considering somalis tend to segregate themselves like other immigrant groups, the only people who interact with them regularly are other poor immigrants. Nobody cares about "Reputation" in the ghetto lmao.

Go to the suburbs of those cities and ask about somalis and the most you will hear is about some guy who gave them a taxi ride who said he was somali or something.

Go anywhere else outside of those 3 cities and ask about Somalis and people won't even know who Somali people are.

so stop fear mongering about somalis ruining their "reputation. we don't have nearly as big of a diaspora to do that.

Our country still has a bad reputation. Ask the first person you see in those three cities ‘what do you think about Somalia and I bet you the First three words that will come into their mind are :” failed state, piracy and terrorism”. That’s what Somalis refer to when they say we have a bad reputation. Even here in the uk, when certain ppl are asked what do you think of Somalis, they will say ‘benefit leachers’ if they are honest. But all foreign people who heard of Somalia will think of the three I mentioned above

We do have a global reputation but its not good at all

It will take generations to reverse the damage

Nah, you'd be surprised what good marketing can do. Look at how quickly Saudi is actually gaining traction as a tourist spot from being seen as a "Wahhabi" hell hole. If we can get Somalia/Somaliland secure and safe and pump millions to even billions into tv shows, movies, tourist projects and adverts... you'd be surprised how quickly you'll see randos talking about wanting to see Xamar or Hargeyso or Boosaaso.

The fact that we expose our Ceeb does not help, I was guilty of it a few days ago.:jcoleno:

@Shimbiris raised a good point when he opened a thread suggesting that it might be better for Sspot, or sections of it, to be private. On social media, we are our own worst enemy a lot of the times

It’s unfortunate to say but inshallah it will change. Piracy is becoming a thing of the past and I believe with more danab/gorgor/haramcaad forces being trained if they are well organised, im giving al shabaab 3 more years. After that inshallah Somalia will build its reputation in the international community
