It's not really disrespectful. Some people genuinely just assume it's Somalian instead of Somali, and that's okay. If it bothers you, just correct them. Sorted

And for those that use it as an insult, it's really just a weak one. Idk how calling someone a Somalian is really offensive. Dry insult, like a 1/10

Some internet Somalis are petty-minded people who major in minor things. I am from Somaliland and view Somalian as a Somalia national, and even I don't care if an ajnabi made that mistake. Have social tact, don't get outraged, and correct people if you feel the need to in a proper manner.

Its not a big deal when ajnabis use it since they (incorrectly) assume "Somalian" is the term for someone from Somalia, there is no malice attached to it.

Its the Somali trolls, particularly seccesionists, who use it to force an artificial divide amongst Somalis. Of course they are ignorant and don't realise that Somali Bantus and cadcads refer to themselves as Somali when they live abroad.

I mean if it had a negative meaning it would make sense to hate it, the word itself is not an insult but people use it as if it is bad being a somali. They could use the word somali in the exact same way that they use somalian and it wouldn't make a difference.
