I was getting on the bus today. The driver was Somali and he seemed surprised that I spoke to him in english (he probably thought i was a hooyo matalo). There was another Somali guy in the seat right at the front near the driver cabin. They were clearly friends since they were chatting. As I walk on his face lit up. “Somali or Eritrea?” he goes. I’m smiling because he’s smiling and I say I am Eritrean. He starts to go on about how I look Somali etc and that I should do a DNA test in case 
He must have thought I was lying to avoid conversation but I honestly wouldn’t have minded talking. Miskeen guy.
But yeah. Moral of the story is that a niche ethnicity is a conversation starter. Take that away and people get agitated easily

When I first met him I was talking to him for 3 months thinking he was a somali but then when I brought it up he was like "how am I Somali you guys have a completely different face shape from us"
