Why do Somalis insult men that help their wives?

So Im recovering from a C section with a newborn and a toddler. My husband took time off work to help me and apparently there are rumors from both my side of the family and his that I cast a spell on my husband :mjlol: because why else would he help his wife with the cooking and cleaning.

I have noticed in the Somali community men that help out at home and take care of children are ridiculed and relatives start inferring thinking the husband needs to be “freed” from his evil wife .

You should visualize their nightmare and say- YES i put a Sixir on your son. For some reason Somalis are afraid of crazy people and if u say that it will look cre cre and that is exactly what they do not expect

It's because you don't understand this generation of Somalis; if you did, you'd understand. Consider pre-war Somalia, when practically all songs and plays were about love. Civil war occurred, and many men were slain or traumatised as a result. You can't be a lovey dovey soft type amid a civil war, thus many guys became masculinized as a mental safety net for all the hardships. The civil war was not long ago, you may still see the repercussions in how they act

Its even present in america where vietnam era dads would be harsh and beat their children compared to the next gen which would be softer and so on until you reach the softest generation.

It’s unfortunate both sides of the family behave that way. That’s not a Somali issue. It’s a general ignorance amongst uninformed people. Who is telling them your husband does all this for you? Since it seems you’ve been married awhile, how is it you’re now realizing your families belittling behavior?

May Allah make it easy for you and your family during this time.

jealousy. make sure you say mashallah and read surah falaq when they say that so they don't ruin your marriage with their evil eye.
