I wish they did. I wasn't taught per say, but i was surrounded in an environment where i had to use somali on a day to day basis, so my somali is pretty good. However, since i started college my somali has been decreasing  still many fobs are impressed by my somali :damedamn: they can't believe i was born in the west sometimes :damedamn: i do wish i was seriously taught tho :francis:

⚠️ EPILEPTIC WARNING ⚠️
Most just expect u to pick up the language just by listening to them speak it.

It’s bc of limited exposure to the language. If you only hear Somali a couple hours a day at home and never hear it elsewhere or have no real need for the language elsewhere you won’t be fluent.

From what I’ve seen it’s the western born that went back home for a period of time or those that live in a big Somali community that can actually speak Somali. The rest can barely string a sentence together
