Why do somali folk eat from one big plate?

Yesterday was my first time eating with a group of somalis from one big ass plate. A very intriguing experience.

It's nice as long as they aren't fobs. Fobs will put leftovers from their mouth back to the plate. This has roots in Islam, it is the idea of jameeca or doing things in groups. The same goes for praying.

Baruurta/xeerta tastes delicious in Somalia but for some reason it's disgusing in the west.
