Why do people care about Somaliland independence?

As for the Maakhir university the funding was external and brought to sanaag under the name Puntland state of Somalia. A federal state receives aids and reliefs in the name of Somalia. Stop being delusional.

Somaliland is the land of isaaq and isaaq rule it.
Everyone knows this. If they want to be indepedent no problem but cut the bs about the britsih borders. Sl claims land they do not govern. Leave all the harti land out and you barely have a region. Let the samaroon vote and see if they want to be part of it.
As for we where a country before Somalia is bs. Never existed. There was a referendum in 1960 to join somalia and isaaq voted against it. Harti supported the union an thats how somalia formed

Yeah I agree. We shouldn't claim the Darood lands and secede them to Puntland. Samaroon Somalis have no problems with Somaliland from what I can tell, (mabye because Isaaq and Samaroon are both Madaluug Dir). Isaa are practically extinct in Somaliland so I don't know what there opinion is.

Its because no self-respecting country has a state that believes they're a seperate entity.

After the Rwandan genocide, Paul Kagame pleaded with the Tutsis not to secede and they heeded. Due to that, they reached better than they would have separate.

Somalia's biggest problem today is Al-Shabaab and we should focus on that. But one must realise that Somaliland creates a dangerous precedent in Somalia. After all, nearly every state in Somalia is divided amongst tribal lines and if SL secedes it creates legal precedence for PL to secede as they were once a sovereign kingdom.

TLDR: Somaliland benefitted more economically and politically from uniting with Somalia but wants to leave when Barre, who targetted everyone, targetted them.

NB: If Somaliland achieves independence, I will be happy for them but SL and Somalia share the same religion, language, culture and ethnicity. The only reason for separation is qaabil.

So if Puntland State of Somalia receives aid from Kuwait or the EU in the name of Somalia, we have Farmaggio to thank? Even though his administration has already come out against development in Puntland? Where is the logic in this?

I agree. No one wants to unite under a secular, western styled government where blatant/open corruption and qabyaalad is a way of life when they could easily make their own. Uniting under religion, however, is something that has worked many times in the past.

I said Somalia. Never said faarmaajo.
We as puntland should be the bigger brotger and be patient and take are part in the success of Somalia. After all we did create the constitution and federal states.

It almost worked in 2006. We can do it agian inshallah. And hopefully the western world won't f*ck it up this time, and the Saudi's better not fund it too. It should be a Sunni Shafti society and possibly a lot of Sufi Islam in there too. That would be cool seing Somalia being a Sufi Shafti Sunni Islamic republic. Like we should have been to begin with.

I said Sufi Islam because a lot of people in Somalia now feel like they can get executed for just following there version of Islam by Salafis.
They should not be afraid just following the way of Sunni Islam there ancestors have been practicing for centuries.

And if we want a united Somalia, all Somalis should accept sufism. Most of ky qabiil (Ciidagalle) are Sufi Muslims. Most of rural Isaaq's in general in Somaliland are also Sufis too.

Honestly, if Somaliland were actually honest about their intentions, I would recognise their claim to independence.

It is not about British borders or 1988 bombing, its because Isaaq have become politically irrelevant in 4.5 and do not have the power they once held.

As soon as independence came, Somalilanders did not have the political knowledge of the Southerners and were tossed aside. To this day, Somaliland still parades those failures (Siilaanyo, Egal etc.) under the party of Kulmiye.

If SL said, we are not going to get as equal representation as Darod and Hawiye then I would be indifferent to their struggle. But I am not accepting any BS about 1988 or British borders.

I can't speak for Somalia, but in Somaliland there are not that many Salafis.
