Why do mixed kids never claim their white side?

Well as for your question is...the white side is exclusive. For them to claim white is seen as self-hatred because a person of color claiming the white oppressive side is almost seen as being a traitor. The black or dark side is more elastic and inclusive and needs the numbers. Besides white privilege is not granted to mixed people who cant pass. They know this and don't bring up the white side. Why claim a side that does not want you?

You would think she would distance herself from claiming black based on the abuse she got and claim to be white instead.

By "mixed kids" I mean kids who are half white and half anything else, why do they never claim their white side, they're just as white as they are their other half.

This seems to be universal, half asians, half blacks, arabs, etc.

And these people who are half white and half anything else are always claimed by the community that they say they're apart of. Black people typically claim half white half black people as black. But you never see white people claiming a half white person as white.

Not true. One of best friends is half Black American/Irish American and always identified as mixed race. I went to college with this half white/Asian that identified as white because his Chinese side doesn’t claim him. Knew another a girl (Native American/Mexican) only identified as native. She and a lot of natives hated Mexicans . A lot of multi race folks, such as me identify with one side over the other depending on various factors

To be fair to Maya, that tweet is from 2012.

She was still in secondary school when she posted that tweet regretting her decision to claim another ethnicity.

Since then, she has always claimed Somali and has probably done a lot to improve our image as a community in the UK alongside Mo Farah, Chunkz etc.

Are you really going to judge someone for what they said when they were 13 years of age.

Her tweet recognising her fault was posted at age 18, many people don't have that type of self-awareness at age 30.

Now that i think about it, Africans like Nigerians and Ghanaians and Bantus in America are less likely to claim black because of mistreatment and negative attitudes by being associated with Black Americans since they resembles them more and can pass as native, while Somalis and Ethiopians in America are more likely to claim black because they are more visible immigrant in their appearance and culture.
