because to them the darker your skin is the more you are slave, Black = Slave, so of course any sensible human being from that area of the world with that history would want to seperate themselves from slave status and seek to establish a new identity.

We Somalis were never slaves, infact we had black slaves and Oromo/habeshi indentured servants, even our ancestors understoond the Oromo/Habeshi were were more related to us and thus treated them better than the negro.

My friend went to the dominican republic and they showed her so much love, she can't wait to get back. :)

Because in our constitution it establishes being Dominican not only as a nationality, but also as an ethnic group. This strategy was used to cause division with the Haitians when they ruled the entire island.

No, it's because they consider themselves Latinos or White and not Black, which is synonymous with African Americans to them.

The rejection of blackness comes from our historical enmity with Haiti.

@Bruno Thoughts on Haitian's?
We share the same ethnic roots from West Africa, except that we Dominicans have some mixture with the native Taino and the Spanish colonizers.

I feel respect and admiration for the Haitians since they freed the entire island from the French yoke when they acquired the Spanish part, but they became too intolerant and radical with the Voodoo prohibiting any other cultural practice.

I think they were not smart to decolonize the minds of mixed groups in a gradual and strategic way, they were carried away by the desire for hatred and revenge (which for me is fine) instead of containing emotions and being cold and calculating to achieve their objectives.

Some are black some are white they are very mixed people and so they frequently switch about but some are normal white people and others normal black people also their close connection to the Spanish who they wanna claim.

The vast majority of Dominicans are only like 20% black, so they claim otherwise. But it's funny when the 80%+ black ones say they aren't black.
The funny thing is that the black looking Dominicans are usually at best 60% black unless they have recent Haitian ancestors. I saw this one blackish Dominican girl that was only 30% black.

It is not fair to force a mixed population to adhere to the polarized identity marker of African Americans. They have Black ancestry, a very prominent aspect of their heritage, but that is not all that they carry.

I don't respect those that try to deny their African roots, as well.
