Why didn’t Somalia restore the House of Solomon?

One of the reasons the United States refused to supply critical military hardware to Somalia was because it considered the latter an invader conquering Ethiopia rather than a liberator. A creative way to have bypassed this situation would have been to add a mission statement that the Somali Republic was attempting to restore the Crown Prince Amha Selassie to his father’s throne. This would have given the Americans cover to back Somalia’s operation against the Soviet backed Derg.

Once we got rid of Derg, we could press the crown prince to sign away the Ogaden on a permanent basis and put in place measures that saw the eventual release of Eritrea, Oromia, Afaria and Harar from the Ethiopian Empire.

Most of the male princes and royals were executed by the Derg, while the princesses and other royal women were being brutalised in jail. Amha Selassie, who had been outside the country during the coup against his father, would definitely have wanted the safe return of his sisters and other female relatives, which Somalia could promise if he got on board with the operation.

Sure, his kingdom would be significantly reduced but at-least he would still be a monarch on his own soil.

It would have been bad considering it would've shown that somalia supports 1 side. We should have not supported any one of them. We wouldve been blamed for the destruction of a whole country that has 20 different ethnic groups fighting each other

What they should do is get every qabil elder to elect 1 of their sons or daughters to marry eachother to create a single royal Somali family which is related to all qabils.
Then the heir of this family would marry a female who has ties to the Solomonic dynasty in order to create a monarch who rules over the entire horn.

Boundaries would be drawn christians get to live and govern in their areas and muslims get to do the same in theres.

All of the leaders from Eritrea, Oromia, Afar, Harar had offices and residences in Mogadishu. The NSS would have kept them in the loop about a Horn version of a secret Sykes-Picot type of agreement where East Africa’s borders are redrawn.

Sayyidka tried that with Lij Iyasu a century ago, it’s not sustainable. A royal member or house can be declared illegitimate and deposed. The trick here is to permanently reduce Ethiopia as a threat, while creating new friendly countries bordering Somalia.

Also with the lesser keys of Solomon in one hand and the arc of the covenant in the other. The new empire will extend its borders to the entire globe.

The best way to remove a threat is by reducing all hostilities.

Bro every morning an Ethiopian wakes up with the taste of salt water in their mouths. They will not rest until they drink from the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean.
Then they will satisfied with the taste of their own tears if they ever try and touch the red sea.

Are you ignorant or a troll? Why would Somalia have restored the feudal slaveowners whom everyone hated in Ethiopia but 5 Shewan aristocrats?

That would make recruitment for the DERG so much easier, they would have even IHAPA members and Oromo nationalists joining up by the millions.

You clearly didn’t read my post nor the subsequent ones. The Prince would rule only the Amhara-Tigray regions, the rest would be ceded away or recognised as independent nations. None of the leaders of the various East African liberation movements in Mogadishu would be against their countries gaining independence like the Soviet and Yugoslavic countries did a decade and half later.

Amharas and Tigrays would be against that a lot. Do you know what IHAPA and the TPLF is? Somalia could have easily have formed a federation of former Ethiopian states without bringing in a discredited, dispised monarchy.

Amharas worshipped the Selassie family, they still do. As for TPLF, Meles Zenawi was a rat, who couldn’t be trusted as history has shown. In this alternate reality he has been dropped in the shark infested waters outside the Mogadishu fish canning factory.

But you missed the point; Somalia needed weapons to ensure victory, and only America could have provided that. Pretending that we were restoring the House of Solomon would have given them diplomatic and international press cover to back Somalia.

the us did support somalia though?

I hate amharas like no one else but contrary to popular beliefs, most Amharas hate him and lived like starving peasants under the monarchy. If you don’t believe me you can go to Amhara region yourself and ask.

America wouldn’t arm Somalia because it was after the Vietnam war, restoring a dynasty they don’t give a shit about and hated themselves (look at the CIA reports) wouldn’t give Somalia military aid more than they did in reality.
