1. Thread title is wrong, South Yemen was the one that fought Somalia. North Yemen and the Arab League sided with Somalia.

2. South Yemen was a satellite state of the USSR, they were basically under gumeeysi. They were fighting their own fellow Yemenis in the name of the USSR.

3. This incident should have nothing to do with Yemeni immigration. Yemen opened its borders to Somalis and allowed unlimited immigration. Somalis were able to obtain citizenship, work and safety there.

Mine was the account of the Somali legal team advising Siyad Barre at the time in those negotiations. It is possible theirs was wrong, or possibly exaggerated, but what do you offer in support of your claim? Were not one of the generals by any chance, were you?

The only offer the Soviet’s had was to basically let Ethiopia annex Somalia and form East African Yugoslavia. I don’t know where the revisionist history that they were willing to let Somalia annex the Hawd in exchange for giving up Haraghe comes from, they weren’t Kissinger.

Somalia couldn’t even take Harar let alone reach Addis.

As you can see from this screenshot, USSR joined Ethiopia before Somalia even reached Harar.

Kulahaa we reached Addis and they gave us an ultimatum.

I don’t care for why they did it. The point is they did and we should punish them for it. We should take Socotra from them and use it as a base for expanding on the Indian Ocean with bigger maritime borders and using their Hydrocarbon reserves.

We were close to capturing Addis Ababa before
the Soviet Union and America gave us an ultimatum. Siad Barre was an idiot and hindsight is 20/20 🀷🏽

They’re a joke. Imagine saying that whilst holding a foreign passport? They all live in America, the UK or other European countries.

If they’re going to call for Somalis to deport these Yemenis, how about they put their money where their mouth is and move back to Somalia? But no. They just want to emulate the gaal far-right in the West as their model of behavior whilst still living in their Western societies.

This sort of mindset certainly isn’t a traditional Somali one. We’ve had Yemenis and others live amongst us for centuries. The Cadcad community along with the Bravo and some in Reer Burco with Indian linages illustrates this. Our major cities were trading hubs and many foreigners decided to stay with no issues and their descendants live on today.

I don’t want Somalia to be swapped with ajnabis, but that isn’t going to happen any time soon. A few Yemenis aren’t going to change the culture or society or cause any issues. Also, Somalis have been venturing into Yemen and vice versa for hundreds of years. We literally have records of Somalis in Yemen in the 1800s and we didn’t have any instability then ect and it’s the same with Yemenis and Omanis in our lands.

Seriously, mate? Why would MBS & MBZ 'ibliisayn' offer you (Somalia) of all nations, a prime piece of land (the largest island of the 7 archipelago, with Hadibu its HQ, is gorgeous) belonging to Yemen? Mind you, both ruling families of Emirates & Saudia are originally from Yemen.

Taking Somali territories, I could envisage, as they have been doing, but give a land of another? I see it not.

And by the way, those 'ibliisayn; only act where the US directs them to.

Socotra is inhabited by people that are closer to Yemenis than Somalis.

It has never been our land, we have a better claim to the Maldives than Socotra.
