All I agree with you on is that Arab isn’t a race isn’t a culture, but all this other stuff about Sudanese being Arab because a minority of their ancestry is ‘Arab’ and they speak Arabic is nonsense. That logic says African Americans are white because they have 20-25% ‘white’ ancestry and they speak English. They are culturally American and Western same way as the Sudanese is culturally ‘Arab’. It’s just identity at the end of the day.

I find it hilarious how (many) Somalis love it when you call them Arab and would feel complimented, but Turks for example have the opposite attitude. Turks despise it when you call them Arab and look insulted, but tell the Turk they look European and they’ll look like a child on the morning of Eid.

It’s like there exists a hierarchy within the various flavors of self hatred commonly seen in the third world.

I see Somalis taking offence to the Arab comparisons online. There’s a social hierarchy for sure though but I do think the amount of people that like being linked to Arabs are little.
