its not right but those civilians need to leave the war zones besides a lot of them are AS supporters and family members of AS were not waiting around for al shabab to bomb liberated civilians who fought for thier freedoms in garowe mogadishu and kismayo

if it was up to me taking back those areas with or without civilian casualties would be my aim

If you close down on AS territory and push them away from strategic roads to major cities you would cripple them. AS are not so strong that Somalis have to resort to such tactics rather Somalis are so weak that they are incapable of taking a village. Even if those villages were decimated with airstrikes like Asad did there still wouldn’t be much progress because the ground forces themselves are simply incapable.

Civilian casualties imo are to be expected but targeting civilian areas and becoming a mooriyan isn’t going to be the game changer you think.

A complete reformation of the army and the government needs to be willing to enter a bloodbath. Thats the nature of a soldier.

The thing that gives them the edge is that the Somali army is corrupt, nepotistic, tribalist, it has inflated numbers, and its rife with internal conflict. AS is a standard the Somali people need to overcome there is no special trick.

NN have been making some improvements in this direction but they put all there energy on the states, if we could get that level of focus against AS and on the army alot of problems would be solved just by default of having a standing army.

You are delusional for wanting Somalia to be like Syria.

Syria is a completely devastated country and will take many years and lot of funds to rebuild itself. Scores of Syrian cities were destroyed in literal terms by the Russian army. Assad's army is a joke. His best fighters are the Iranian units and Lebanese Hezbollah.

The US is building a Kurdish state within Syria. The territory allotted for it is huge.

The Sunni rebel areas are doing much better than Assad controlled areas because they are connected to Turkey economically and use the Turkish lira as their currency. It insulated them from the crippling US sanctions that were imposed on Syria. The Syrian lira is not worth the paper it is printed on now. It is trash. There are thousands of Turkish soldiers and military equipment in Idlib. The rebels have Idlib in firm hands.

Assad has nothing to show for his rule now. The areas he "controls" outside Damascus and Latakia are in ruins. His grip of those areas is maintained by Russia and Iran. Assad's real power does not extend beyond Damascus.

Syria is de facto partitioned.

Somalia right now is in much better situation than Syria.
