Why are some somalis super obsessed with lightskin Somalis?

I never really thought about my skin color deeply because I was always just brown, not dark nor light, but I notice that my mother comments on my little sister's skin color and hair more negatively, which I think is strange and awful. Also I knew this really light Somali woman when I was younger, and I always thought she was arab When I found out that she was Somali I thought it was really bizarre and didn't find it beautiful, just strange to see a somali that light, also all the somalis I grew up around were brown to dark so I never really thought lighter skin was attractive for someone somali. anyways I saw the daughter of an habayar my mom was close with a few months ago and she's wearing very light makeup so I think its just some somali's push girls into hating their skin color.

During my childhood some strange compliments was thrown at me and my older sister because of our skin colour. Like one time my mother was with me and some naag randomly said "ohhh she is very white" like I don't know if she thought i was half white. That's how pale I was. Also the usual caadey etc.. or she looks arab to my sister, etc. Do you think is the media pushing this or what is it? i also noticed darkskin somalis with straight or wavy hair are even more sort out for. People was obsessed with my middle sister who is darksn with wavy hair. For me if your facial features are beautiful than your beautiful regardless if your skintone or hair texture.I know w4 aren't as bad as these African Americans or Asians. Bit still
I didn’t notice any colorism amongst somalis back in the day, even from older ladies who tend to be the only demographic that bleaches their skin in the west (even tho they’re few). The most desired girls when I was younger were brownskin/darkskin

Colorism as a phenomenon in our culture is one introduced and pushed by older ladies who were indoctrinated by those women who run ”beauty” shops. Absolute losers the lot of them.

What media lol somalis dont have known Somali shows or movies that put lightskin on a pedestal. It's just colorism in the community and I disagree about not being as bad as African Americans since they are the only group in the world that does not have a bleaching culture. They have colorism but they don't bleach unlike us and other black people around the world. If u lived in America u would see that.
