Segregation along the lines of Saudis and Afghanis are not Islamic. It is to violently control females and justify their beatings and to cripple their advancement in education, wealth and thinking. Their extreme control on females contributed to this problem among other things like strict non-islamic marriage process that forbids cross tribal, cross national marriages. Women remain single forever after divorced at a young age in Saudi Arabia. They risk arrest and revocation of their citizenship if they marry outside. These two countries have the highest homosexuals and it is cultural. They are the most extreme culturally towards women and ignorant.

I don't know either way how prevalent this stuff is but blaming it on gender segregation is wrong. People are supposed to marry early. When you prevent this, all kinds of trouble emerges.
They go hand in hand in the Saudi/Afghan version. They believe culturally that women pose a threat to family honor and must be watched 24/7. Every male in the family down to the extended cousins keep watch on women. In Saudi Arabia, this extreme practice made female driving forbidden. Afghanistan is even worse for females. Pakistan is the same in majority of areas occupied by the Pashtuns.
Extreme segregation of sexes coupled with full access to the debauchery of the world through satellite TV and the Internet leads to this situation.
All that sexual tension needs to go somewhere all you need is allot of free time due to comfortable living standards and you have a catastrophe waiting to happen.
The gulf is the best example of this environment other countries have lover living standards. This means that they have little time and energy to waste of promiscuity when they have to work hard for your next meal.
Most of the gay stuff is situational like in prison but some get used to lifestyle and prefer it.
The majority revert to heterosexual sex when available.
The UAE used to be like Saudis but things changed very quickly within a decade.
From the late 90s onwards the country was flooded with single female expatriate workers.
At the same time an entire generation of educated local women that entered the job market and the streets lol.
I left in the 90s but came back in the late 2000s and was shocked by the change.
It looked like every everyone was dating multiple women. Even my nerdy wadaad Emarati friends had one wife through an arranged marriage and a second wife Lebanese or morrocan on the side.
At the same time it looked like a massive decrease in homosexuality, tiny presence and tucked away in dark corner somewhere.
So you see the Solution is to expanse sexual access in a society as much as possible.
In Somalia for example we should encourage the trend of early marriage. As early as possible 25 years max for men and 20 for women.

Yh thats my point, its not segregation thats the problem, rather a lack of religiosity, fear of Allah. lack of early marriage, lack of controlling nafs, lack of lowering gaze(they watch alot of p0rn over there), also I'm sure there is alot of secret child rape and rape in general there which is covered up due to taboo culture
