I've read Bantu historical accounts. Never got the impression that they had some particular fixation with us, to be honest. Their obsession with us today definitely seems influenced by various factors like their conversion to Christianity, their being influenced by cadaans (Kenyans are major coons for cadaans and borderline worship them sometimes-- this then extrapolates onto us in that they envy our features cos they see it as more cadaan approximate, even though they won't admit it), and now us being economically quite dominant in their country.
