What is their point, though? It seems african societies in general are just racist towards each other. It's only seen as different if you live within the society you're being racist against. Like if a low-paid migrant worker in the gulf having anti arab sentiment will not be seen as bad as an emirati prince talking down on these migrant workers. It's all about who has the power in said society. But comments like in that video are just racist, but no one cares because their's an understanding of how anti-other African societies are. And there would be now outcry if Sudanese ppl said something similar.

I don't advocate for being racist because I don't believe two wrongs make a right, but to answer your question, anyone can legitimately just say racist things if they don't care about the consequences. Rwandans used to be like the Hima, up until about 10-15 years ago. They're still not as colorist as most of the world, but they are no longer as immune to it as they used to be. We have bleachers, too, but thankfully the government stepped in and banned any bleaching products, and society generally shames anyone known to bleach, so that helps.

I don't think Somalis have a Colourist Problem and any display of it is Extremely Recent and holds no weight outside of Mythical Beauty Standards.

Unlike the Rest of Africa and Much of the Global South, there has never been a point in Somali History where an Individual with "lighter skin" held more advantages than a person with darker skin. Bleaching is just a Product of External Influence and Failed State Status.

Somalis are more "Featurist" and focus more on Phenotype than something as Arbitrary as Complexion. and even Featurism we displayed is aimed at other groups rather than domestically.

A Dark-Skin Somali with Narrow/Straight Nose, High Cheekbones, Long-Neck, Curly Hair would be seen as More Attractive and Valued than say a Niger-Congo Bantu Individual who is just "light-skinned" without those features by Somali Societal Standards.

Somali don't buy into the Whole Complexion Game and all of that is an Extremely Recent Phenomenon.

Well yes being a light skin women wont get u a higher position just based on color. No this isnt just in xamar. lol other places in somalia have this problem. Kenyan somalis are known for it as well. The only somali group tht doesnt bleach and isnt tht color struck is the western somalis.

No true at all, Somalia is mostly Baadiyo outside of Urbanized and Modern Cities like Mogadishu, Puntland spots, Hargesia and etc.

Outside of that it's pretty much non-existant with only the Internet amplifying its appearance.

As if most people back home can afford the ongoing costs of those products or have access to it. Especially when they live in rural areas on limited income and have far more important priorities.

Some of our people have run with this exaggeration to the point I see them placing themselves alongside communities who are far more notorious for this practice. Literally saw some argueing that its worse than it is in Nigeria. It’s like they crave notoriety and will magnify anything negative.

Also, your point about colourism back home is spot on. In many countries in Africa and the global South, your status in society and your whole trajectory in life can depend on your skin tone. From access to education and employment to marriage. Elites in these countries tend to be lighter or mixed. If colourism was as bad as some claim, the cad cads/Barwanis would be politically, economically and socially the most powerful. Our leaders would be married to light skin ajanabi/bi racial women.
