All of this is actually a win-win for developing countries like Somalia :

- American Oil giants make sure oil still stays relevant so the 3rd world can still tap into their oil potential and make some big $
- And at the same time these same countries can easily power their country with cheap renewable solutions like wind and solar from China

So these countries can benefit from both China and the US at the same time

Im wondering how can solar panels be maintained in somalia. Because after a while the panels get dusty and have to be cleaned to restore the energy output which requires water. But water is too valuable of a resource to employ in large area solar farms

This is actually also a cheatcode to generate jobs

Let's take the example of Galmudug, it's a desert with lots of sun and not many people (like 2 million), the whole state can get powered by up to 10 25mW solar farms

You can build a few solar farms all over the state, for example you build one at a town next to a highway and hire tens of people from the town to clean them, they dont need extensive lenghty training just give them each cleaning tools like on the picture above and you're good, even kids can do this, people secure jobs and it brings wealth to their town as well as powering the whole state and making energy cheap and accessible, there's no downside solar panels can also last for decades

Hire a few security guards per solar farm and a guy to oversee the whole thing as well as a couple of electricians/technicians and you can easily generate thousands of jobs

For wind energy it's more complicated cause you need to train the people and you need equipment, not everyone can climb 100m its not a job you can give to anyone, but wind turbines aren't that expensive as an upfront investment as well

Only downside with Solar is that it doesn't work at night but there's big batteries to give excess solar power generated during the day, only problem is they cost as much as the solar panels but some cheaper batteries are being worked on apparently

This isn't a problem however if you invest in Wind energy because in coastal areas wind is stronger at night thanks to the Somali jet

Potential in what exactly

First we have a lot of problems like around 3m IDPs that need to be relocated into formal housing, and since we're starting to develop so late with limited resources Somali governments are mostly pouring the little money they have into paving roads, and the country is very very big so its hundreds of millions of $ worth of basic roads to connect cities that need to be paved
