Whoever introduced political flags to Somalis had no idea the chokehold it’d have on Somalis

For such a small and homogenous ethnic group, we seem to have dozens of flags, most of which have no history and have been created within the past century.

does anyone else find it so cringe?

Not much effort has been put into the flags either. Make a flag on ms paint, print it out on tshirts, dirac’s and bracelet and suddenly you have a new flag Somalis will start repping.

every sub-sub-sub qabiil has their own flag, every region has their own flag, every wannabe state has one too lmfao.

Flags have not been a part of Somali culture to this extent. I’m seriously so confused where this infatuation with flags came from.

could it be because most Somalis feel very lost and don’t seem to carry a national identity they resonate with so they create their own regional flags to place their pride in?

by the way, this isn’t me saying we shouldn’t have flags. Like yeah sure, have a flag for puntland state or whatever, that makes sense. But Somalis are the only people who wave their state flag like its their pride.

I can’t think of other nations that do this.

Because every clan is in effect a nation and a political bloc and this our inheritance from the past, nothing much has changed since the days of the Tirri and Harla and Madanle.

It's embarrassing and cringe. We are watching the manifestation of mental divide and conquer by qabiil being passed down to the next generations in plain sight and people don't realize how this will only further separate us. I mean look at how they turned the Minneapolis Mayoral election into a qabiil based shit show.

You know what's funny. It's gotten to the point that people from other countries are confused to why somalis are using their flags.

They are seeing accounts on tiktok with the sierra leonian flag , or the Gambian flag , or the Azerbaijan flag , or the Iranian flag , or the Luxemburg flag and they open the account and see a somali person and think why is his Somali has our flag in their account .

Before the problem used to be the regions aka Somaliland and puntland and SWS or Jubbaland having flags. It was bad but it was like 4 or 5 flags. Now it's gotten to the point every Jufo has their own flag.

This shows how divided we have become and how the colonials job has done very well

The same people that attacked DPW for investing in Somaliland now created pages advertising all developments in Somaliland as done by the Govt of Somalia. They know deep down there's nothing they have to offer they just want to take what others have worked on. Go work on controlling the country instead of just photo ops for geo politics
