Mahathir was truly hated and he hated them, but still succeeded. He came into power when the average annual income per person was 600 dollars, when he left it was around 20,000. The only leader to tell the IMF to f*ck off. Mahathir had more things to overcome than Lee Kuan Yew.
I am also intrigued how the islamic Erdogan thrived in one of the most secular countries in the world. He outmaneuvered the establishment plus the army. I hope he writes a memoir.
