Who raised you?

People have this misconception that if you were raised by only one parent you have some type of cuqdad. I grew up with my Mum and Sister and I still love my Dad a lot Alhamdulila, btw we don't need a pitty party huuno, we grew up just fine

I have both parents in my life but my mom played a bigger role raising me

The whole community. :icon lol:

I used to visit back home almost every summer since I was a little kid. Sometimes, I'd stay there longer than 3 months.

I'm one of the few lucky ones where both sides of my family are very close. my ayeeyos are/were first cousins(lol, I'm inbred I know) and my awoowos AUN were both close qaraabo and friends(worked in the same place during the 60s).

The family dinners and trips back home used to be so much fun. Things are not the same anymore when 3/4 of my grandparents passed away.
And all of my aunties and uncles have their own families now so we have less time for each other.

You know what kind of makes me sad sometimes, is how our Somali bruddas disrespect single Mums when a lot of them were raised by a single Mum. I really dislike how our community makes it seem O.K to look down on a woman who's raising her kids on her own. Single Mothers are super women and deserve wayyyy much more respect
Inferiority complex and resentment towards their own mom, who they blame for the marital breakdown. A lot have no smoke for the father that didnโ€™t uphold his responsibilities and neglected them, but have vitriol for the woman who did everything, but was not perfect (how can she be, when she had to be both a mom and a dad?) Many need therapy.
