Somalis dont practice fgm and islam doesnt condone it yet people have wrong image of it. Its an african tradition, not somali one. My mom doesnt have it ( i never asked but when we saw doctumenery and it said 99%somali women have it we were suprised) neither does my sisters or any somali woman we know.

I’m pretty sure it’s common in Somalia. The women side of my family all had it got cut and it was the worst kind. Only the women who were born in the diaspora in my family like my sisters, cousins, and I didn’t get cut. Although, one time when I went to Somalia my grandma was trying to convince my mom, however, my mom refused and said I had health problems. Legit dodged a bullet. I remember I used to get shamed for it as kid but now I feel bad for them after learning about it. Although, I think the amount people with fgm is decreasing. Since, the same people who used to make fun of me changed their mind about it. But who knows I find getting statistics from Somalia hard so I wonder about the accuracy of these numbers.
