I bumped into a Isaaq guy on Thursday who went on and on about "midnimo" so i asked him these questions:
Who is a somali (ethnically)?
What makes them ethnically somali?
Is it the Somali language that bonds tribes? If thats the case, are non-afmaxa speaking tribes Somali?
Different tribes have different tradition. For example the Hawiyes specifically the Abgaal do Niiko but Northern tribes reject/ridicule it. Another example Isaaqs and some Darood make Xeedho for weddings but southern tribes dont. So what is Somali tradition and what isn't?
Were the somali speaking tribes ever united in history (prior to 1960 and the colonial period)?
What bonds the different tribes other than Islam?
What if the Muslims of the horn of Africa were to unite would you be with it or against it?
