I have Asperger's. One thing I really hate it I take things very literally always. Anyone else suffering from high functioning autism and how do you deal with it?

I don’t have any friends despite I am social with my immediate family. I act like a robot around people and my senses are heightened, so I avoid meeting people at all costs. I am normal in classes I ask, answer and everything. But if someone approaches me I do that quick small talk, and shut down anything that could lead to long talks and excuse myself from the situation. Idk if that counts as autism. I asked my family if they think I have autism due to my underdeveloped social skills. They completely denied it, even my therapist. But I really doubt that.

If your therapist denied it, then I don't know. You can try another therapist to screen you or whatever they call it, and if they don't show you to have autism, then you probably don't.

You seem to have self-awareness, which means you can improve on your social skills. That's a sensible reading from my end reading your comment there.:icon lol:

You almost described me 100% with this post. I don't think you're autistic just very introverted.

Everybody is autustic or anxiety ridden these days. I've seen really autistic kids. They don't function normally in society. Most can't speak.

Being a little weird or not having social skills is not autism.

There are high functioning autistic people.

I would presume there are quite a few here on this forum, but as we are Somalis many autistic people ( and many other mental illness ) will not know they are. Because we lack knowledge about mental health.

Think about how many PTSD sufferers their must be suffering in silence in Somalia.

I believe my younger sister is. She shows a lot of signs of autism, but my mother doesn't want to take her to get a diagnosis. The rest of the family is 99% sure she is.

I went to 3 different therapists, they said I have avoidant personality. But I would do a proper autism screening test.

How old is your sister? The signs appear early on and it’s usually different for boys and girls. It’s often harder to spot in girls because they tend to cope better in social settings. I’m not surprised about your mothers reluctance because parents find it difficult to accept or acknowledge that their child is on the spectrum but screening her would benefit your sister in the long term.

Autistic children are no different than other children - it’s just that things that come naturally to others they have to work at 10x harder and I think that makes them amazing.

Why are you so keen on developing a disorder? SubxaanaAllah. Say Alhamdullilah. Realize everyone in the world is faking it. And throw yourself in the mix. Everything can be learned.
