Who fits the new alleged Somali phenotype?

I’ve noticed this new phenomenon (especially on social media) of a certain phenotype being pushed onto Somalis, especially the women, of all of us having loose curly hair, a small nose, and lightskin, despite having all 3 attributes being considered a minority. I recently did a 23andme that came back 99% Somali (with some trace ancestry). As someone who fits this new phenotype being perpetuated, I was just curious if anyone fit it as well, and also knowing your background is also just 100% Somali? Just interested because all my life I’ve had others question my identity, including both ajanabis and other Somalis :)

Wdym “new” and “alleged”?
Like the idea that all Somalis have lightskin, small noses, and looser hair texture, even though that isn’t the case. They mostly put these labels on the women rather than the men, but it’s become much more common especially on social media.

None of these features are rare or a minority in Somali people. Especially the small straight noses.

There is nobody pushing that label tho…the somali edit pages mainly post brown and darkskin somalis, they add one lightskin somali with loose hair and everyone focuses on that and gets mad about it for some reason

I’ve seen it happening personally, especially when it’s those East vs west debates, and they categorize us and Ethiopians as having these 3 set features and that’s what makes us “different” from one another.

Really? Whenever a lightskin somali posts or one of those editpages posts a lightskin somali ajnabis act shady in the comments. That nasriin thread is what I mean. I’ve never heard of loose hair or small noses being associated with ethios. All of that “small noses = east african/dipped in chocolate” stuff is just people trying to make somali features an east african thing

Sis I swear it’s a new phenomenon and I have no idea when it switched onto us lol. I work had a place with a lot of Somalis and have had multiple ajanabis and other Somalis question me 24/7 about my identity, but that’s just my personal experience. Small noses, I get it. Even when it comes to hair…like the other day I saw someone who was half Brazilian and half somali and all the comments went on about how the person is mixed with the 2 countries that are known for having the best hair. Def agree with the last thing u said and what is this nasriin thread? Everytime she comes on my fyp with that long white text I start to get nauseous lol

The only people who have ever questioned me are shady ajnabis, never other somalis. What do they say to you? Idk about the hair stuff, people have always thought we have loose curls, I don’t think that’s anything new. If anything I see some ajnabis pretending that we don’t have loose hair and mainly have type 4 hair; they either do that or get mad at us in the comments of a random girl with loose curls doing a hair tutorial vid

Ohhh I see now lol, some ajanabis will starts with the usual “I’ve never seen a Somali that looks like you” or one straight up said to me I don’t believe you. The funniest day was when one Abti straight up started the convo like “soo gaabar somaliyaeed ma tehed?” But it just had me curious cuz I thought I had the most stereotypical Somali face and features. The hair thing is definitely growing in numbers, I’ve only seen bigots try to claim we have type 4 hair (which isn’t a bad thing of course but it isn’t that common) Also whenever people claim that black women can’t naturally have straight hair, they are alwaysss using us as an example I find it so funny
