Nope f*ck siad bare he destroyed our demcracy
Somalia would've been at Kenyan level development if the Republic stayed as it was.
Barre really centralised Somalia under a single base of power and had the opportunity to make Somalia a great country and unify Somaliweyn. He even assigned clans to Muslim east oromo to calling them 'somali abo' and even Harari were fighting for Somaliweyn.

Sadly he was a poor Diplomat and thought in terms of xoog. He should've foreseen the USSR siding with Ethiopia and played ball with the USA to get support instead of jumping into Ogaden war head first. Then there is the 80s which saw all communist countries go into economic decline including Somalia after the war, Siad faced attamepts and started targeting clans such as isaaq. He should've stepped down and chosen a successor instead of cling onto dwindling power that led to stage collapse.

the coup should have never happened. The level of qabyalaad we have today wouldn’t exist

Aden Adde is miles and miles ahead of any President in Somali history, simply for stepping down from power and not having an interest in returning to power. Not many people understand how much character and discipline it takes to forego all of the domestic and international prestige that comes with being a president; the respect from your relatives, from your peers in parliament and from overseas leaders, the love from your people, the loyalty of your army, the attention from the foreign press and from potential love interests that see you as the main prize, the presidential palace, the cars, the houses, the salary, the suits, the luxury gifts, medals and awards from around the world etc.

He symbolises everything that is missing in Somali politics; statesmanship, compromise, humility, strength and Somalinimo.

?
Like others have said it's Aden adde and there isn't even room for discussion here even the way he carried himself on excursions abroad shows you how proud somalis used to be on the international stage a shame it never passed on to his successors

Truth is we’ve never have an important President.

We’ve had a short lived democracy that was destroyed in its infancy and then a dictatorship that eventually led to the collapse of the Somali state until this day.

None of our presidents have done much because they didn’t have the chance to.

Maybe if we never had a coup we could have had some important President elected in the 70s or 90s that revolutionised Somalia.

Yes but aden cade real pased the test though i mean most important test is handing over power defending somalia sucesfuly against ethiopia in 1964 border war.
Holding election on time and after defeat hand over power .
If we continued that practised by now we will have been good place economicaly but instrad we had maniac caled siad bare
