For the record i disagree with slavery and Islam encourages us to avoid it, to free slaves,

but 1, it was the 1800s, humans were ruthless and it was a dog eat dog world, so rather my ancestors practised and do slavery than done to us, any day i will to be the master so i do not apologise for it

secondly, slaving was better than killing for good can come out later as we saved a life rather than take it out, they could become a muslim later or their kids and Grand kids,
