Important mention. There is a real difference between countries suffering from political violence (Syria, Yemen, Ukraine) and countries that are just plain crime ridden (South Africa, Honduras). The former are safe countries that became unstable due to internal or external political issues whereas the latter is dangerous due to socioeconomic and cultural reasons. Damascus, Sanaa and Kyiv were historically safe cities and will return to being safe once their wars have ended.

Somalia is also much the same. Mogadishu had homicide rates comparable to European cities back in the 60s-80s and once the city became calm again post 2012 crime became low again. Same with Hargeisa, Berbera, Garowe, Bosaso, Jigjiga, Garissa, all totally safe cities.

Its also nonsense because the Somali counties of Kenya are amongst the most peaceful and least crime ridden in the country.
