I would replace the word love with the word desire because love is such a vaguely defined concept.
If you perform this replacement then it’s easy. Desire and fear are the two most basic motivations we have. They are the same motivations that are possessed by the most primitive organism in existence.
This is because an organism’s survival instinct can be broken down into those two major forces - the desire to maintain a position in existence and the fear of that which will obstruct this desire.
So, with that view point, I think that people are equally motivated by either force. After that, motivation can only be judged at the situational level.
