Where does the idea that Somalis brought Islam to the Maldives come from?

I’ve seen this online a few years back and over time I’ve seen more people regurgitating this point.

They're talking about a figure named Yusuf al-Barbari that spread Islam to the Maldives. Some relate this to Sheikh Yusuf Kawneyn (Aw Barkhadle), a Somali saint from the north. When Ibn Battuta visited the Maldives, the governor was a Somali, so I don't believe it's too far fetched.

yusuf is buried in SL thats not him, also the somali governor was only governor of one island, he was still only a governor under the queen or sultan

Yes I mean the governor he met. Also you never know, Barkhadle was said to have lived for hundreds of years. You can do a lot with that lifespan

Did Yusuf al-Barbari have a grave in the Maldives? I don't recall anything about him being buried there, just that he spread Islam.
