you don't have to though, most of these game are know for being difficult or complex.
if i had recommend a game/games it'd be the metal gear series especialy the firdt three games

Spoiler: mgs2 metal gear solid 2 was the only game i know where the game had activily insult main character throughout the story by the supporting cast, villians or the game itself it all culminate in this psycological breakdown of raiden (the main character) chatacter where two ai entities insulted and belittle him and call him a drone of society who has no right decide to his future. spoiler
