Autism is genetic from the fathers side :ohno:

I have two severely autistic brothers who will require care for the rest of their lives (there is 10 of us). I’m also going to medical school next year. I know autism is genetic so I have no interest in having children and I won’t be able to achieve my career with kids.

I do want to get married but I understand the fact that I’ll have to support my brothers forever is a deal breaker for some and I respect it

Ignore chat gpt this study proves that there’s a slightly higher chance from the fathers side
“only slightly more than was observed for fathers with siblings with ASD”
So I’m technically still right

The text you're quoting states kids are more likely to have autism if their parents siblings do and it’s a bit more likely if it’s on the mothers side. :childplease:

"Offspring of mothers with a sibling(s) diagnosed with ASD had higher rates of ASD than the general population RR=3.05 (95% CI, 2.52-3.64), but not more than would be predicted for second degree relatives within a generation, and only slightly more than was observed for fathers with siblings with ASD RR=2.08 (95% CI, 1.53-2.67)."
