For the longest i've wondered why everyone said this to insult arrogant arabs but only in the past 3 years did i realise that most arab countries managed their oil profits in a poor manner. Not only have they had more than 30 yrs to build an economy like Norway did when they cleverly invested their oil profits to diversify their economy, but it seems that even now they still lack the mental capacity to swiftly move over from their dependence on oil to a more sustainable fuel and energy source.

The Middle East is going to learn how to diversify their economy, whether it's going to be the easy way through gradual innovation or the hard way through an abrupt loss of their main export (oil). Oil is definitely a finite resource, but it's going to take at least several lifetimes for us to truly start seeing the loss of the world's most important commodity and then we're all, not just the Arabs, going to be truly screwed.

It's because the improvements in technology have led to the discovery of new oil deposits, more efficient processing methods and the ability to extract oil from previously out of reach locations. We will still run out of oil though, just later than the earlier predictions.
