This is only if the government’s corruption stops. But UAE has touched down and I don’t see it happening.

desalination plants for ocean water to be turned fresh. Lascanood had one, but we can have more. If these are placed next to commercial greenhouses and connected to sprinklers inside to water the plants, there would never be drought or famine again. Everything total would cost would cost 40 million. Solar panels or wind turbines could also be erected to power these projects.

A water de salination plant can be anywhere from $100mill-150 not to mention the expensive maintenece costs,i can’t see it happening

It’s easily achievable without corruption. we can’t even tax our citizens due to AS. If we could there’d be that money, and then some.

Jubbaland can easily become our bread basket. We need to settle farmers on the most fertile land and make it easy for them to profit from their labor. The issue currently for them is the checkpoints that continue to strip money from them, some of whom are ran by the government. We need to be helping our farming community, not making a difficult profession harder.

Utilizing mass desalination for consumption and agriculture purpose is unfeasible. Fact is you need capital, know-how and organizational skills to make sure those billions spent don't end up being gone in corruption.

When it comes to water, In Somalia and the horn we have plenty. The problem is most of it is trapped underground.

"...Every year, some 12 Km3 of freshwater end up in the Indian ocean from beneath the Somali peninsula, enough water to supply two or three times the population of the entire peninsula."

This combined with river and rainfall management should give us enough water for consumption and agriculture.

Like others said, JL, SWS and HS should easily produce enough food too feed the nation and export. Couple this with a campaign to normalize fish and shellfish consumption, going from a pastoralist to a ranching life style to raise meat and the raising of poultry would make Somalia abundant with food.

This need systematic planning, internal infrastructure connecting the country, vocational schools for farmers, subsidies for them to modernize etc.

Build a canal from the shabelle river to Mudug and use the surplus water that cause flooding to irrigate the nomads grazing zone. Make it a law they can't move and you've also solved the geeljire killings for grazing land.

Somalia is already one of the least densely populated places in the world and has sizeable amounts of arable land, this would lead to bankruptcy

Taxes imposed on the one gobol Mogadishu is located in or around a couple fms could pay for this. Why should we wait for JL aerable land to be free when we can transport the soil to greenhouses.

This would solve many land disputes as well as decrease price for food. More affordable than my thought. @Samaale55 @johnsepei5 what do you think of this one.

How about just using irrigation systems, making certain gobols primed for just agriculture as well as introducing fertiliser, hydroponic systems and etc. We need to dismantle pastoralism in gobols with fertile lands suitable for agriculture and I don't mean abolish it I mean make it so that agriculture is more practiced in that gobol than pastoralism, there was a user on here who also recommended expanding lesser and minor rivers and drilling underground waters to make those rivers more larger not to mention if we focus on having a effective power grid it could better ensure things go smoothly I say that your idea is good but I think we should start with this and get accustomed and used to it and gather the funds made from it THEN we can pursue your idea.

I agree wholeheartedly. Baby steps right? Some of these can even be diaspora funded. But my idea can’t.

Desalination plants + renewable energy solar or thermal + greenhouses + fertilizers.
With these elements you can feed somalia and neighbouring countries.

California the more dry state than many other states on north east of it, is responsible of 50% of fruits and vegetables, 99% almonds, pistachios, pomegranates, and walnuts. California is also the nation's leading grower of lima beans, lemons, kumquats, raspberries, strawberries, and spinach in the US, the industry worth billions.

agriculture is a third world economy booster. it’s smarter to just import our food and build economic industries instead of trying to compete in the most over saturated industry of all time

The import hurts our people heavily. Food is more expensive. There’s some gaajo areas where a bag of rice is 60$+
