What Somalia and Japan have in common...?

I rather be richer with slightly more crime than live in a boring monotonous society like Japan.

Japanese culture is so conformist it's almost disgusting.

It's also not healthy to be genetically pure. I would probably recommend Somalis start to mix with their neighbours the Oromo and Afar.

Japan GDP (PPP) per capita $37,322
Norway GDP (PPP) per capita $61,197
USA GDP (PPP) per capita $56,116

Multiculturalism clearly wins.

Come on buddy. Norway has a much smaller population and oil reserves. Japanese are much more economically diverse.

Japan is not the only united country that was originally tribal. Same history can be found in Europe. They moved on and united under their respective ethnic groups. Even the Arabs moved on from tribalism, what does that say about Somalis?

Somalis hate eachother because there's never been a sense of Somalinimo historically. The Japanese have always maintained a separate ethnic identity.

Almost all Western European countries have GDP PPP per head higher than Japan.

Their economy is stagnating, no growth whatsoever.

All the famous Japanese companies like Sony, Nintendo etc came from the 80s and before. In recent years they haven't produced anything innovative. This per head figure will only grow larger and larger in the future as Japan falls way behind the West.

There was a time when Arab tribes hated each other, if they moved on, so can we.

Japan is just going through the next stage of human and economic development. The zero growth rate and aging population problem is gonna hit Europe and America soon. They've managed to stave it off so far with migrants coming in and replacing their own aging population, but it will catch up with them soon. Japan is not falling behind, it's ahead of the curve. The next stage is not exponential growth rates but environmental sustainability and progressive labour policies as many jobs will soon be automated.

This automation fear mongering is bullshit. Jobs will just change to accommodate for the new situation, just like they did in the early part of the 20th century when industrialization hit.

Japan is doomed to mediocrity because of its culture. They will not be the ones who are going to discover all the new scientific breakthroughs, the West will.

I am very bearish on Japan.

Japan is not a paradise. It has many cultural problems and is a very rigid hierarchical society. But they are still near the top when it comes to scientific innovation and discovery. They also have done pretty well for themselves considering they have no natural resources like EU, US, Russia and China. They came this close to supplanting America as an economic superpower during the 80s. They're gonna be alright. Our people however...

With regards to automation, I agree with a lot of experts who think the job creation and growth won't keep up with the rate of automation. We're not talking about mechanical, electricity and steam machines replacing manual labour and horse-drawn carriages. We're talking about super-intelligent AI capable of doing 100 years of work in a fraction of a second.

Don't underestimate the capacity of government to create a whole bunch of jobs. I doubt they would just let everyone live off of basic income and waste all that human capital. It will be used one way or another.

Are you forgetting that Japan was meddled for the whole 20th century, is surrounded by enemies, they can't built a military and is totally under US control? In other word, US colony?

The problem is not the outsiders that are meddling you, it's your tribes who are doing it.

Yes but not DURING the warring state periods the meddling with forgeiners happens centuries latter, It's not the similarities in culture I'm pointing out the similarities in the conflict that when the central goverment collapsed, the people started affiliating with their clans it doesn't matter if the conflict was fought with stones, katanas or aks, the mindset was the same, I.E. what is happening in Somalia isn't rare our weird it's the result when kinship turns into politics and we can learn form countries who've had similiar conflicts and learn from them

Somali clan system and Japanese clan system are not the same. There was a strict social hierarchy in Japan. Only Feudal Noble families ruling domains and their Samurai retainers were part of clans, ordinary peasants didn't have clans. So when it was abolished it was relatively easy because only a small percentage of the population adhered to it.
