Why would make the same mistake again that brought the Somali nation on its knees? You can build a strong and rich country, do you know how much power you can have by being a rich country who's trading and doing business with other nations? We have the biggest coast line in Africa and can potentially supply Ethiopia from our shores with goods, do you know how much power this will give the Somali nation?

Knowing what our families went through, is it so surprising?

How many other communities can you list that arrived to the west escaping war and violence and bounced back quickly? Not many. Our experiences aren’t ordinary. It takes time to re-adjust.

I was close friends with a Vietnamese girl growing up and her family also escaped their country facing horrors. Her home life wasn’t easy as you would expect.

We shouldn’t compare ourselves and our outcomes to immigrants who came under different conditions than we did. Especially not immigrants who were selectively chosen for their education levels and ability to assimilate. (At least in the U.S.)

Our families didn’t come by choice.

Technically you don't have to engage in a full blown war, or even a war at all. The was the mistake Somalia made the last time.

Given the destructive structure Ethiopia's state is built upon, coupled with its political system; they're naturally bound to descend into internal turmoil every couple of years or so.

It's always the west or east, preventing the country from ceasing to exist. In any case, being strategic alone would suffice with regards to Ethiopia. Let's see how long they can sustain the country by themselves. Remember with the recent Tigray war, without Eritrea, TPLF would be back in power.

You’d be surprised- I didn’t think much about the future at all until around 17. I had a high school teacher who made us write out 5 year plans and it seems to have stuck.
