I have like 86 hours worth of volunteer hours at one of the hospitals in downtown dallas. I volunteered as a unit secretary. all I did was answer phone calls and direct the calls to the nurses. That's it. I mostly did it for experience since I am interested in becoming a physician, but I am really interested in trying something new. But being a unit secretary is honestly boring. reason I stopped was because I was just sitting there sometimes just using my phone.

I did a home fire preparedness campaign with the red cross one day. literally just walked door to door in a neighborhood for an entire morning, installing free smoke alarms if people wanted them. Literally had a gun pulled on me that day cause supposedly we were "knocking too loud" lol.

also during a couple summers when I would be visiting san diego all Ramadan I did help clean the masjid after taraweeh prayer. It was at a small masjid. I mostly just picked up plastic bottles, and cleaned the bathrooms, and vacuumed the floor sometimes.

I am interested in doing something else. I was thinking of tutoring work and etc.

Do what you like, but make sure that you can explain how your volunteering is applicable to being a physician.

So things like tutoring and mentoring (youth, children) illustrate leadership and advocacy, which are good attributes that physicians should have.
Also, publications, research, being an exec member of a club, etc and general volunteering (i.e. a homeless shelter) are great things to have on your resume. You don't really need to volunteer in a hospital to get into medical school.

@Jerome in the house feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

Get something that pays. School should be your priority.
