I remember coz of a khutbah on friday some time ago.
The imam was using his story as an example of how patient we should be and to learn to give things up for Allah with certainty that allah will repay us with better.

There are three types of soul described in the holy Quran

1) The worst kind of soul is the kind that calls for evil.

And I do not acquit myself. Indeed, the soul is a persistent enjoiner of evil, except those upon which my Lord has mercy. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful."Surah 12:57

2) Then there's the reproaching soul, the soul that blames itself. The soul that fears Allah after committing a sin. Allah loves these kind of souls to the point that He swear by it, and Allah swears only to things He loves. This soul blames itself after sinning, seeks repentance, until it sins again. Every soul is prone to sin, but the best of souls is the one seeks forgiveness.

"And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it (7) And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, (8)" (Shams 91:7-8)

'And I swear by the reproaching soul' Surah 75:2

3) The best of souls is the soul that is at peace. The one that seeks pleasure in obeying Allah. The soul that is calm and awaits what Allah has promised her.

[To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul,Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], And enter among My [righteous] servants. And enter My Paradise." 89: 27-30
