It's just a ritual Somalis got from Ancient Egypt/Kush. It was a ritual for their gaalo beliefs about purity. Basically, some non-Islamic stuff Somalis were doing way before Islam spread in the people. Hell as Cushites, we used to drink milk mixed with blood, but since drinking blood is haram, we've stopped. Other non-Muslim Cushites carry on the tradition, which can be seen in Kenya.

Pre-Islamic culture in Somalia and among Somalis is basically Cushitic culture derived from Kush/Kemet. We should abandon these backwards rituals, as they cause nothing but pain for our sisters, and is completely unnecessary. Why cut a part of God's creation. God created it for a reason. So our sisters can be happy in halal relationships (i.e. marriage). Pretty primitive thinking.

This site is full Salafi though so take it with a grain of salt. However, if you do look a the madhabs the Shafi'i would say it waajib whilst the hanafi would say it is sunnah as it was practiced during the prophets time. e.g Five are the acts of fitra: circumcision, removing the pubes, clipping the moustache, cutting the nails, plucking the hair under the armpits. (Sahih Muslim 257b). This hadith and its context were aimed at the preparation before sex takes place.

The hadith aimed at women is provided sahih by abu dawud I think he compiled it from al-albani. A woman used to perform circumcision in Medina. The Prophet said to her: Do not cut severely as that is better for a woman and more desirable for a husband. (Sunan Abi Dawud 5271).

Also when you look into the Al-Adab al-Mufrad (think of it as a book relating to manners for a Muslim) collected by al Bukhari he states that the grandmother of ‘Ali ibn Ghurab, reported that Umm al-Muhajir said, “I was captured with some girls from Byzantium. ‘Uthman offered us Islam, but only I and one other girl accepted Islam. ‘Uthman said, ‘Go and circumcise them and purify them.’” This was a practice that predated Islam to be fair and was incorporated into the deen at the time like many other practices of the time.

Just because something is sahih doesn't mean we still have to follow it, we know it's bad today and that's all that matters. All the points they listed are just bullshit and there are no health benefits whatsoever. More time in baadiyo its fucking done with no anesthetic and unclean equipment.
