What is the origin/meaning of Istarlin?

My cousin is brainstorming "authentic" Somali names (not Arabic). I heard Istarlin is just the Somali pronunciation of 'sterling', the English word. Is this true or does it have an older meaning?

I think you are right, Istarliin is the name of a very close relative and was told that it’s sterling and originated from the pound sterling, the U.K currency.
