The earliest written documents in tigrinya go back to the 13th century , same thing for amharic.
Ge'ez is much older. The earliest written swahili document dates to the 18 th century and it's written in the arabic script.
I have been unable to find the earliest written document in somali wadaad script.
I keep reading that we used the wadaad arabic script introduced by Yusul al Kawneyn but I never found a document written in somali that you can actually read.
The earliest forms of writing are probably from the 19th century poems

We never had a written language. Well maybe wadaad Arabic. Our language was oral.

Nigga we haven't even excavated our war torn country. What makes you think we will know our ancient language and script.

Our history is vast and spans many centuries. In some of those centuries we were actually civilized, even tho that's hard to believe. I strongly support archaeology in the country, even tho many somalis do not even value this crucial sector of a country.

Yes I'm referring to wadaad Arabic.
All other languages have a single document that is considered the first written text of their language, like the swahili poetry in the early 18th century for example l.
We know for sure wadaad script was used in the 19th century but I haven't been able to earliest known document

There is a difference though.
I'm looking for evidence of written "af soomaali" , doesn't matter the period .
The earliest known written stuff in somalia are a few undeciphred inscriptions and sabean writing. But that's not af somali.
With the swahili arabic script they have plenty of stuff that you can actually read , other african languages in Mali have well known written documents using the Arabic script but for somali I found not a single text in wadaad except a few letters which are pretty recent.
