What is it like

Madd

Maddd!!!!!
Am probably going to get violated for asking. But what is it like to live in a two parent somali household where both of your parents work. I was always curious. My pops left when I was a kid. He used to work but my mother divorced him and raised me. My mother had her reasons which were justified.

But to the middle class somalis how was your experience growing up. I came from a depraved neighbourhood where all my friends sell drugs and I was close to going down that path. I even had family members on IPP. That is like the equivalent of life in the uk. Alhumdillah i didn't turn out like my cousins or brother or friends. Am at uni in another city living by myself. Its hella hard cus I used to be a road man but am now trying to get a degree and a masters as well.

I am just curious what it must have been for you guys with an abo who has an active role in your life. Do you think you are more complete as person. Like having two working parents has made you better as a human being and helped you more with life.

A lot of us missed this :( The best we can do is make sure the next generation (our kids) don’t have to go through this!! @op well done for not continuing the cycle xx

I grew up in a traditional household. My father paid the bills and my mother did the child-rearing. I wish they didn’t have that arrangement. A 50/50 household would have been better in my case. I barely got to see my father because of how much time he spent working. I remember how I always used to beg him to spend the day with me. I didn’t understand why he spent so much time working when I was younger. I understand now. He sacrificed a lot for our family. I still wish I had the chance to spend more time with him.

I think I’m more of a complete person yeah
I had a good example of what a good husband and stand up man looked like.
To this day every man or woman in community only has good things to say he’s honor smart etc

he’s an even better dad

I feel like I’d still be a good person without an abo but I won’t Lie and say he didn’t help me a lot growing uo

I'm grateful alx. My dad has been through everything with me. I think about the family road trips we'd take when I was younger to go see family in a different city. Those were the best times of my life. But life isn't perfect. Never look at somebody else's life and think they have it better because everyone has struggles. Only place where nothing goes wrong is Jannah. I bet those around you are proud of you for how you turned out. I'm reading this and feeling proud of you as well. I know it must've been hard but alx you prevailed. :it0tdo8:
