In the near future, oil will be worthless. China and most of the world is slowly switching to electric cars to stop the dependence on oil which is the cause of all the wars in the ME.

It will, of course, retain some value in specific industries plastics, cosmetics, tires etc. Most major oil producing countries are aware of this and are drastically adapting to this change.

It is way too late for us to try and get in on the oil money, perhaps 40 years ago.

We have a lot of gas which will be helpful but we will competing with Ethiopia who will start extracting gas by 2019 with the help of China.
So...:manny:

I heard that somalia is going to be the worlds largest oil producer. How come no one talks about it.

Somebody lied to you hunny. Now my question is..who is that devil. You need to find that person and cast them out of your life because they have you lookin a mess.

They're some companies actively exploring it as we speak.

It's just moving slowly, because the businessmen who're investing in exploration aren't exploring much because of the insecurity and lack of confidence

Oil isn't a smart investment anymore especially with the global push to reduce c02 emissions , Somalia needs to invest in IT and the information sector rather than oil.

It can't be economically extracted.

Otherwise we would've started drilling decades ago regardless of the insecurity.

If Somalians politicians would bend the knee for malnourished Ethiopians then they would've laid down on the floor for big oil.

We might be able to extract it for domestic use but you can forget exporting it.

Lmao RIP to gulf states then.

We got enough untapped oil to be a G20 economy, we have so much of the Indian Ocean to our selves.

I agree mate. I wonder myself : why is somalia perceived as a poor nation when in fact it’s the opposite. Look at the turkey for example; a nation without natural resources and in fact with the second biggest army in the nato alone!

A big secret of the oil industry is that oil is far less scarce than commonly assumed. The price of oil is artificially elevated due to efforts by the major oil companies to limit supply. Even when oil companies buy oil concessions, the primary motive is often to prevent that area from flooding the market with cheap oil which would undercut the fixed price. Because of this, Somalia's purported oil is of no interest to the major players. They already have plenty of oil, so why bother with Somalia? The only time Somalia's purported oil resources become relevant is due to times of particularly high prices, something that is becoming rarer because of new extraction technologies. In sum, don't expect any oil riches for Somalia.

There's going to be a summit in March of 2018. Drilling for oil won't take place until 2020 or 2021. Only after the regulatory framework and agreements are finalized.

Do not believe the hype. Somalia is in no position to extract oil and sell it, and if they were to have a market then they are at the mercy of their costumers as long as the gulf states dictate the market play.

Another thing, extracting uranium is a terrible idea with Somalia in its current state. You would need to build a Thermal power Station aka Nuclear power plant with proper cooling system and electric generator. One power plant that can be used for proper uranium extraction would have immense cost just to build and maintain it.

Somalia should continue on its course on exploring renewable energy resources via Solar and Wind. Hydroelectricity is one possibility although that would require a construction of a dam and abundant amount of water.

You don't really need a full fledged power plant to extract uranium. The business is not THAT energy intensive to extract. There can be some processing in Somalia but most the value will be addd overseas. Just any mobile electric generator would be sufficient, you don't need 500MW for this.

Having said that, Somalia is in dire need of a real power plant. It is probably the #1 reason companies don't invest in Somalia, yes, even ahead of security which comes a close second. Most companies just aren't keen on building mini power plants/generators + roads etc just to set up shop. To invest in Somalia right now would be a mission of state building.

Man Somalia is so pathetic. WTF are these leaders doing? Building a powerplant and training people to operate them should be #1 priority. From that comes investment, industry and jobs.
