What happened to Dire Dhaba & other territories?

When it fell, what happened to the Somali inhabitants? There was a sub clan of Dir, did they get erased, massacred, assimilated? We talk so much of gaining back our rightful land, but we sometimes forget areas like Eastern Oromia, Harar, & parts of North Central Kenya & Danakill were once inhabited by Somalis.

They’re Oromo today. So many of them in Toronto, you’ll find some who are still Somali but majority of them are afranqallo. During the 77 war siad barre created a faction called Somali abo. Which included oromos of somali origin, those who shared land with Somalis and those who bordered them. He did the same with the afars. This is why he was able to March as far as kaffa, Bc of his alliance with the groups there. Siad barre was the only one who came close to modern expansion tbh. That’s what separated him from others, him being from Ethiopia helped also. Even sheikhals, the qallu ones are Oromo whereas aw kutubs are kinda split. Oromos tend to have a tradition of adopting people into their ethnicity when they expand. Killing populations off is usually what Somalis do, we rarely assimilate groups by the thousands.

Dir Dhabe Somalis just language shifted. They still existed in the city, their clan name is Gurgurga. Now they speak Afaan Oromo tho & mostly identify with them.

Dir dhaba still have somali inhabitants that are manly divided in two, these that are oromofid of somali origin and regular somalis such as issa. Today they are in need of help, because of drought they are selling some land to actual oromos for money in order to acquire provision.

The Gurgura have dual identities and speak both languages. They are chiefly Somali, know their true origins and acknowledge them. Anyone can become Oromo or have that citizenship. It's a nation consisting of individuals who don't all have the same origin.

Oromos stole their land. Some families were forced to move to jijiga because they were attacked. That’s not a long term solution either. Ethiopians are coming for jijiga as well.
